1. What is an apothecary?
'Apothecary' is an olde-fashioned term for a healthcare professional who makes herbal formulas for people, and doles out advice, in this case whether warranted or not.
2. Who is Kings Road Apothecary?
Hi, I’m Rebecca. If you'd like to know more about me, what I do and my teaching style, check out the 'about' page.
3. What is Western herbal medicine?
Herbal medicine has been around for as long as humans have been interacting with plants (which, for the record, is a long time). Whether its folk cures (like sniffing lavender for headaches, or putting bitters in soda water for indigestion) or more complex formulas and treatment plans for chronic conditions, its all under the umbrella of herbal medicine: using plants to help the body heal itself. While Indian and Chinese herbal medicine traditions are quite well known, we here in the west also have a tradition, albeit a slightly non-traditional tradition. For more information about Western herbalism, check out this article, and some of the websites on my links page. Or if you're in LA, come to my classes!
4. Do you do consultations? I have a problem that you don't have a formula for.
I do see clients both in Los Angeles and via Skype. Consultation costs vary based on whether you want a quick fix or a long-term help, and whether you want me to provide your formulas or just give you a list of things to find and try. Shoot me an email to rebecca <at> kingsroadapothecary [dot] com.
5. If it doesn't work, can I return it?
Absolutely. The only things that are non-returnable are the scrubs and custom formulas.
7. How long will my salve/ scrub/ body butter/ tincture last?
All Kings Road Apothecary products are made in small batches without the use of preservatives. After about 6 months, the salves will start to change consistency and after about a year, the taste of the tinctures will start to change. To get them at their best, use them up within 6 months. They're not made to be saved on a shelf for years, but to be used, as often as needed.
8. Why is [insert any product name] unavailable/ why is [insert any product name] not shipping until next month?
Because all Kings Road Apothecary products are made in small batches, and are all seasonal, and mostly gathered from the wild, sometimes I run out. The areas I gather from can only handle so much gathering and I won't take more than that. Such is the nature of seasonal, wild and sustainable. If there's something you really like and I'm out, please send me an email and I'll put you at the top of the list to be notified when its back, and just be sure to stock up while we have it.
9. Why does it sometimes take ages for my package to arrive?
Kings Road Apothecary has been getting very busy as of late, and since it is still a one-woman operation, if I'm overwhelmed with orders, it can take a little while to get them out. If its urgent (whether you're just desperate for it quickly or are injured or sick and need it ASAP), just shoot me an email and I'll bump you to the top of the list. Thank you for your understanding.
